This course overviews the relationship between dance and society. The location of dance in the present and the role of dance in the future will be examined.
Dance and Body

This is a study of human anatomy and body alignment through physical experience and exercise guided by the use of image and metaphor.
Pilates

Students studies about muscular relaxation and natural respiration through Feldenkrais methods and dance massages. Learning these methods, students can move their body more efficiently and protect their body from dance injury.
Ballet Technique Method

The School of Dance introduces Baganova Ballet methods and R.A.D. methods to students. This is a practical training class to educate the professional dancers.
Rhythm & Tempo

The term 'rhythm and tempo' was originated from dance, not from music. However, nowadays most of people consider 'rhythm and tempo' is the language of music alone. This course (re)considers this peculiar situation of rhythm and tempo in dance and re-conceptualize it in a new context of dance.
Internship

Students can participate in a dance company as a performer or as a staff in order to improve their practical knowledge on professional dance production. Students should check the list of dance companies, which the School of Dance gives the credits for the student's participation. Only12 credits are allowed for the course.
Practice in Dance Music

This course practices several musical instruments such as Korean traditional percussion instruments, Western percussion instruments, and piano. This improves the basic sense of sound for the dance.
Dance Composition

This course is designed to develop dancer's creative imagination in dance movements. Students will discover the way a dance performance is made by choreographing short dances.
Workshop in Dance Creation

Students create one short group dancing of 20 minutes. This choreographic work will be the first step toward the graduation performance.
Improvisation

This improvisation class expands the student's movement vocabulary through a variety of problem-solving exercises. These exercises encourage students to discover new ways of thinking about time, space, dynamics, and sound within themselves. By solving the exploration problems, the student will spontaneously discover new approaches to moving.
Reading in Dance Literature

This class studies the literature and history of dance in foreign texts. Through this, students can acquire the basic knowledge on dance studies as well as improving their communication skills in foreign languages.
Folklore

Folklore is commonly defined as the wisdom, beliefs and stories of a people or tribe which they pass on over time to preserve their traditions and to make sense of their community and world. This means that folklore is not only a fascinating record of the past, but also something we create and experience everyday. This course brings together examples of origins, realms, and methods of folklore around the world, and a variety of dance performances around the world will be at the center of this research.

Practice in Dance Science

The School of Dance has its own dance laboratory, which has built for the scientific measure and experiments of human body. Many computer-based programs will analyze the function of joints and muscular strengths. Students will learn how to effectively train their body according to these scientific analyses as well as acquiring basic knowledge on dance sciences and relevant analysis equipments.

This course is designed to examine the management of art galleries, theaters, and concert halls with an application of these legal and business considerations. This is a survey course in which students will compare several dance events and festivals in the world and understand the fundamental principle of performing arts events and festivals. Students are encouraged to apply their academic studies to practical dance concerts management.

This course practically looks over all the performing production and management elements including legal principles and contracts and facilities liabilities, which affect those who perform or create art. Through lecture and readings, the student will learn how the culture is affected by the law and how the law is affected by the arts.

This course studies techniques for nonprofit arts organizations. Topics include financial management and planning; federal, state and local grants; foundation grants; corporate support; annual fund drives and special events; capital campaigns and deferred giving.
Comparative Ethnology

Comparative ethnology focuses on the meeting of cultures, and compares different views on the same ethnic group from local and historical perspectives. Foreign cultures are the main area of interest in cultural anthropology, but the characteristic features of our own culture are also examined. Based on this ethnological understanding, students can create dances that can well express the cultural or ethnic identity of their own.
