Greetings from the President

We will fly toward a higher vision; we will become a proud contributor to the international art scene

Korea National University of Arts (K-Arts) has served as home to prominent Korean artists inspiring their creativity. It has also been fulfilling its mission of fostering aspiring young artists blessed with great passion and potential. Despite its short history, K-Arts has accomplished remarkable achievements, demonstrating great enthusiasm based on its conviction in the importance of art education. Creating such a university is like planting the seed of a magnificent tree that will take firm root to nourish the world. K-Arts will nurture an optimum educational environment in which professors teach with unparalleled capabilities and passion and students exhibit their potential to the full. By doing so, K-Arts will create a fertile breeding ground tailored to the needs of each individual student, thereby helping each of them realize their goals and ideals as internationally recognized professional artists. An equally significant mandate of this institution is to provide students with chances to better appreciate the public benefits of the arts by expanding bilateral exchanges with prestigious universities across the world and encouraging them to participate in global volunteer programs. These programs will help our student stand tall in the international arena. I also feel that it is incumbent on art schools to educate their students so that they can widely propagate the beauty of the arts, using their talents to make the world a more beautiful place. To this end, the school will establish a system to support both students and alumni to the fullest extent. With the entire faculty and staff, I will make sure that the university excels not only in teaching but also in research, contributing to the progress of our society. It will be a truly competitive school that will rival the best in the world. We will make sure that our students grow into well-balanced artists equipped with professional knowledge, capabilities and good character. They will become a catalyst in making our society healthier and more beautiful. That is my promise.

New Strive for Another Successful Decade

A year of 2006 celebrates the 10th anniversary of the School of Dance of the Korean National University of Arts. KNUA has begun to take an initial step of
celebration of the 10th anniversary of six schools, starting from the School of Music in 2003. Although the number of ten years in its' development would seem obviously insignificant compared to western universities and conservatories with more than a century-old tradition, the apparent success of KNUA, achieved in such a short history is almost paralleled to their success or even beyond, as KNUA has intensely developing to enrich the artistic climate of the culture of Korea.
Not only our outstanding current and former students of the Music and Dance schools have been continuously awarded at the prestigious international competitions but also some of alumni already found their place at the various foreign performing groups as well as Korean companies. The number of these successful cases is rapidly growing each year.
At the School of the Korean Traditional Performing Arts, the most distinguished faculty members are cooperating with the most talented students, and highly motivated students from around the world are increasingly aware of KNUA's compelling prestige as they show a higher desire in gaining education and experience of Korean traditional culture through KNUA. Alumni of the School of Film, TV & Multimedia are recognized by the field practitioners and several theatre groups formed by graduates of the School of Drama are performing actively throughout the whole country. The School of Visual Arts with its' strong and creative curriculum attracts the best students in Korea and makes every effort to reach out foreign students as well.
KNUA is preparing another successful decade; in the year of 2007 our new building will be completed at Seokgwan campus in Seoul. In addition to the classrooms and individual & project studios, there will be two more performance halls and one cinema theatre. A new library with all kinds of digitalized materials, books, and student facilities will be furnished for our students and staffs at this new building. All of these facilities will provide educational, professional and cultural foundation to embark their artistic potentials and successful responsibilities.
Our unique educational environment with interdisciplinary-centered six schools offers the most exciting and experimental programs in Korea and such uniqueness could not be easily found in any other places of the world. Students of each field collaborate in classes and production fields as they share their creativeness and capacities. KNUA is the artistic and educational life of the community, composed of professional faculties and young promising artists, advancing new methods and promoting innovative knowledge. After another decade, I am confident that our graduates will be back to KNUA as renowned artists, and meet those potential artists here again at KNUA.
KNUA is exactly where your artistic talent can be fully strived, deeply inspired and enduringly cultivated to the farthest extended horizon.
